A Life Built on Defying the Odds

Some women are shaped by adversity. Others use adversity as the very force that propels them forward. Jeanne Andrea Di Grazio belongs to the latter group. An aspiring author, poet, and patent attorney, Jeanne has built her life around perseverance, curiosity, creativity, and an unwavering belief in herself.

Her journey has taken her through fields that require discipline and determination. She graduated near the top of her college class with double majors in Physics and French and later earned a Master of Arts in theoretical physics. She went on to earn her JD and Master of Laws in Intellectual Property Law, while also being selected for Law Review and publishing as a second-year law student. Yet, behind these accomplishments is a deeply personal creative journey that has always been connected to words.

Where the Love of Words Began

Jeanne’s love of poetry began early. Her father introduced her to poets such as Robert Frost and Tennyson, while her brother John, affectionately known as Fud, sparked her fascination with music, song lyrics, word games, and storytelling. These early influences helped cultivate a lifelong desire to write.

Her brother’s influence remained meaningful throughout her life, and one of his words of wisdom continues to resonate with her: “Fate has a funny way about it, kiddo.”

For Jeanne, fate and life’s unexpected turns have become part of a much larger journey.

When Writing Became a Lifeline

That journey became especially meaningful during one of the darkest periods of Jeanne’s life.

In January 2025, Jeanne faced a serious life-or-death health scare that led to a brief stay in a nursing home. During that difficult period, she witnessed an elderly woman sitting beside a large bay window, appearing filled with despair and longing. The experience forced Jeanne to confront the uncertainty and brevity of life. She realized that waiting for the perfect time to pursue her dreams was no longer an option.

But it was not simply the realization that she needed to change that kept Jeanne moving forward. It was writing.

Poetry became a source of strength when many other things felt uncertain. During her darkest moments, people she expected to be there for her let her down. Writing did not. It remained something she could rely on. Even while she was in the nursing home, her thoughts repeatedly returned to her love of writing. The desire to create, express herself, and tell her story became what kept her going.

For Jeanne, writing was not simply a creative outlet. It was something that gave her a reason to keep moving forward.

Turning Loss Into Meaning

Jeanne’s experiences with loss have also deeply influenced her creative work. The passing of her father, mother, and brother shaped her desire to explore the connection between love and loss and the spiritual transformation that can emerge from both.

Her upcoming book, Orange Shoes (Spiritual Détente), reflects this journey through poetry and self-reflection. The work explores challenges, personal transformation, love, loss, and the search for meaning.

Rather than viewing adversity solely as something to survive, Jeanne believes it can become something to learn from and use to one’s advantage.

Choosing Courage Over Fear

Throughout her life, Jeanne has faced fear, self-doubt, and the temptation to wait for the “perfect time.” Her experiences have taught her that waiting can become its own obstacle.

One quotation that has guided her comes from an article her father shared with her during a difficult time. Its central message was that courage is not measured when everything is going well. True courage is revealed when adversity arrives.

That belief continues to shape Jeanne’s approach to life. She does not want fear or uncertainty to determine what she does next.

Creating a Voice and Helping Others Find Theirs

For Jeanne, being an empowered woman means being fearless, finding her voice, and helping others find theirs. She believes women should recognize their own worth and replace self-doubt with confidence and self-belief.

Her philosophy is straightforward: doubt, fear, and worry accomplish nothing. Action leads to accomplishment.

She also believes that there is no perfect time to pursue a dream. There is only the opportunity to take action now.

A Future Filled With Words

Jeanne’s creative ambitions extend well beyond Orange Shoes (Spiritual Détente). She hopes to continue writing poetry, create song lyrics that could one day be recorded by a famous artist, and write children’s books. She also dreams of pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing with a concentration in poetry.

Her ultimate measure of success, however, is not recognition or fame. If her work inspires even one person, she considers herself successful.

For Jeanne Andrea Di Grazio, poetry is more than an artistic pursuit. It is a form of healing, a source of strength, and a way of turning difficult experiences into meaning. Most importantly, it is her voice.

And after everything she has overcome, she is determined to keep using her voice.
