Starting a business is a big achievement for many entrepreneurs, but maintaining one is the larger challenge. There are many standard challenges that face every business whether they are large or small. It is not easy running a company, especially in a fast-paced, ever-changing business world. Technology advances, new hiring strategies, and now, political changes coming with the new administration, all add to the existing business challenges that entrepreneurs, business owners, and executives have to deal with.

Maximizing profits, minimizing expenses and finding talented staff to keep things moving seem to be top challenges for both SMBs and large corporations. We have been interviewing companies from around the world to discover what challenges they are facing in their businesses. We also asked each company to share business advice they would give to a younger version of themselves.

Below is our interview with Michael George, Founder and CEO at Continuum:

What does your company do?

Continuum provides a technology platform that enables and empowers independent IT Service Providers to secure and perform Remote Monitoring and Management, Backup and Disaster Recovery, and Security offerings to the small to medium business markets around the globe. Our offering empowers these IT Service Providers to leverage a global workforce as our platform includes a NOC, SOC, and Help Desk operation with over 1000 technical staff, enabling the local IT Service Provider to hire only the necessary technical talent to interface with their customers and provide more strategic, high-value services.

What is your role? What do you enjoy most about your role?

As the founder and CEO, I set the strategic direction for the company, focus on talent recruiting and leadership, work with potential acquisitions, and work closely with our Board as Thoma Bravo is our financial partner. I enjoy (almost) everything about it! As a global organization of this scale there are certain administrative aspects I don't love - but the people, markets, strategy part of it is where my head and my heart is!

What are the biggest challenges in your business right now?

The Managed Service Provider (MSP) market is a cottage industry that is rapidly transforming. Our partners are small business owners we work closely with to help them grow rapidly and profitably to keep up with the unmet demands from this sector. It's a highly fragmented market being consolidated quickly and we are ushering our partners along as they are commanding a premium for their businesses when they leverage all of our platform for their service delivery operation.

If you could go back in time, what business advice would you give to a younger version of yourself?

Go with your instincts, they are probably more right than wrong. Entrepreneurs have good intuition about market opportunities, personnel matters, technology fit. Just about every aspect of the opportunity before then. Don't over analyze. Use your good judgement and go for it!
