Starting a business is a big achievement for many entrepreneurs, but maintaining one is the larger challenge. There are many standard challenges that face every business whether they are large or small. It is not easy running a company, especially in a fast-paced, ever-changing business world. Technology advances, new hiring strategies, and now, political changes coming with the new administration, all add to the existing business challenges that entrepreneurs, business owners, and executives have to deal with.
Maximizing profits, minimizing expenses and finding talented staff to keep things moving seem to be top challenges for both SMBs and large corporations. We have been interviewing companies from around the world to discover what challenges they are facing in their businesses. We also asked each company to share business advice they would give to a younger version of themselves.
Below is our interview with Eliran Malki, Co-Founder and CEO at Belong:
What does your company do?
Belong.life is the world’s largest social network for cancer patients and caregivers. The community enables our “Belongers” to connect with top physicians, advocates and other patients undergoing similar treatment, empowering them to share information, learn, consult, manage and overcome mutual challenges. Additionally, we use AI and big data to gain a better understanding of the cancer patient journey, with the goal of optimizing treatment and outcomes.
What is your role? What do you enjoy most about your role?
I’m the CEO and co-founder of Belong. Every day, I’m amazed how information and tips from one person’s experience have the potential to dramatically improve other people’s lives, and at times even save lives. These “little” tips -whether it’s about dealing with medication side effects, financial questions, or managing day-to-day activities- can be a real life-changer for someone else battling cancer. I’m overwhelmed by the powerful and meaningful emotional support Belongers constantly provide to one another, and the profound impact of the connections made in our community.
What are the biggest challenges in your business right now?
Right now, the biggest challenge is to make sure that cancer patients around the world know about our app, “Belong- beating cancer together”, and onboarding more physicians and advocacy groups to support the rapidly growing community. Based on feedback and thousands of stories from our Belongers, we know that the Belong community can be life-changing, but people need to know about it!
If you could go back in time, what business advice would you give to a younger version of yourself?
I wouldn’t change anything, but I’d remind myself about the importance and power of having a strong team. The team you choose is your most valuable asset. Your team can make your life easier or more stressful and they are the ones that will work with you to come up with solutions on the path to success. I’ve seen that repeatedly throughout my career, and again at Belong. I’m thankful our Belong team has succeeded in building such an incredible and valuable solution. I’m proud that we bring together amazing physicians and active Belongers to provide real value to people, patients, families and the wider community.
